Why Therapy?

Therapy has long had a stigma in our world. Many people still view therapy as only for someone who is “ill” and “needs help”. We all have an image of what therapy looks like and it is NOT simply “venting” or “complaining”. The reality? Therapy is so much more than what you think it is.

While therapy can address mental health symptoms related to anxiety and depression, the therapeutic experience goes far beyond a diagnosis. In fact, many people who attend therapy are not struggling with any specific mental health issue, but simply want to grow and understand themselves better! Therapy can be (and often is) a space to get curious, address aspects of our lives that are just not working, and to get to know our core selves.

My job as a therapist is not to tell you what to do, and (unfortunately) no therapist has the magical answer to everything. A good therapist should engage clients and provide a safe space to dig in and find that answer for themselves.

Sometimes therapy means education about why things like racing thoughts happen or what coping skills are. Usually, a therapist will guide you to better understand your own patterns and behaviors and work towards acceptance for your whole self. You will always learn something about who you are and how your patterns have helped you to survive.

Yes, therapy can be hard work. And, therapy is also interesting, unique, beautiful and even fun at times! Are you ready to learn more? Head over to the Contact Tab to schedule a free phone consultation!
